Amanzi Arnett
Amanzi Arnett (he/they) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Memphis, TN. Their work centers on the preservation of the stories of Black and queer communities in the South. In 2021, Amanzi was awarded the Indie Memphis Screenwriting Fellowship, during which they completed a feature-length film screenplay “I’ll Fly Away”. Their words have appeared on platforms such as MIC.com, FOCUS Magazine, Minnesota Public Radio and BBC Radio. Also a performer, Amanzi toured with Chorale Le Chateau in collaboration with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for the Abyssinian Mass tour spanning 16 cities along the eastern and southern United States. Most recently, they presented Songs of Cabin and Field, a concert of their compositions at the historic LeMoyne-Owen College featuring the Memphis area PRIZM Ensemble. Amanzi also has their first of many planned short films about various Memphis historical figures in production that will premiere in Spring 2025.
