Eliazar Posada-Orozco
Eliazar A. Posada-Orozco Jr. (he/him) became the first openly LGBTQ Latino elected in North Carolina after being elected to the Carrboro Town Council in 2022. He is the executive director of Equality NC, the oldest statewide organization in the country dedicated to securing rights and protections for the LGBTQ Community. Born in Florida, raised in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, he has worked and lived in North Carolina since 2006. He is also the founder of Posada Strategy Consulting, a consulting firm that works with nonprofit and grassroot organizations to create strategies around fundraising, community outreach, and advocacy. Previously, Eliazar worked at El Centro Hispano as a community specialist and, later, acting president and CEO. In 2022, he was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council for Hispanic/Latino Affairs by Gov. Cooper, he was reappointed by Gov. Stein in 2025. Eliazar graduated from Campbell University in 2015 with a degree in political science and government.
