Jilisa Milton
Jilisa Milton (she/her) is a social worker, civil rights attorney, and the executive director of GASP (Greater Birmingham Alliance to Stop Pollution), an environmental justice organization advancing clean air, climate resilience, and public health across Alabama. She leads with a vision grounded in racial equity, collective care, and systems change. She builds partnerships that unite grassroots communities, policymakers, and sustainable business leaders to address the legacy and ongoing impact of pollution in the South.
Rooted in Birmingham’s history as a steel hub shaped by racialized zoning, industrial policy, and public health disparities, Jilisa’s leadership centers frontline communities in the work of building a healthier, more equitable future. Beyond GASP, Jilisa is an adjunct professor at University of Tennessee School of Social work and Tuskegee University, teaching mediation, forensic social work and social work & social change. Outside of work, she is a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and supports artists, entrepreneurs, and creatives through compassionate legal guidance.
